What is TC talking about?

clipped from www.mtv.com
Tom Cruise in a recently released Scientology video
KSW: Keeping Scientology Working. Refers to a policy LRH published in 1965 that requires all Scientologists to follow his words and rules exactly.
"It is something that you have to earn": Cruise is referring to taking Scientology courses.
the tab for wisdom can be hundreds if not thousands of dollars.
"Am I going to look at that guy or am I too afraid?"
According to former and current members, pre-clears have to learn to look someone straight in the eye for hours.
out-ethics
If you misbehave, you have "out-ethics.
SP: "Suppressive Person." An SP is someone who commits suppressive acts, like murder, criticizing Scientology or altering LRH's teachings
Journalists are automatically considered SPs because they traffic in bad news and so are barred from entering Scientology. Psychiatrists would also be SPs
PTS: "Potential Trouble Sources," as in Scientologists who are losing the faith or are being influenced by an SP.

The things that people will buy into -- and Scientology is something one literally has to buy into -- is enough sometimes to make me think that insanity is the norm for the human race. But then what is "insanity", really? Usually it refers to people operating outside of the norm. The farther outside of what's considered "normal" (for any given society) one's actions/ lifestyle/ personality happen to be, the more likely said society is to label them as "crazy". Hence, by this definition, it is impossible for insanity to be the norm amongst society as a whole. But despite the subjective relativity of "insanity", most individuals tend to view "mental illness" as an objective concept. Were insanity truly objective, it would then be possible for insanity to be the norm. However, in this instance, the "normal" person wouldn't recognize their own insanity. It would only be recognized by those abnormal few that were lucky enough to be spared mental illness. Of course the majority of society would likely consider that small objectively sane population to be the insane ones. Or perhaps rather than insane, they would simply be viewed as "SPs", "sinners", "heathens", "infidels" or any of the other names societies "religions" have for people whose belief systems differ from their own.

"Lesbian" Worms

clipped from blogs.nature.com
Scientists have created ‘lesbian worms’ in a new development that some are suggesting could shed light on the nature vs nurture debate over sexuality
nematodesNOREUSE.jpg
“The conclusion is that sexual attraction is wired into brain circuits common to both sexes of worms, and is not caused solely by extra nerve cells added to the male or female brain,” says biologist Erik Jorgensen
The ‘lesbian worms’ line is a bit of red herring. There aren’t true females in the C. elegans nematodes used, only hermaphrodites and (rare) true males. “A hermaphrodite makes both eggs and sperm,” says Jorgensen.
They also took hermaphrodite worms and turned on the genes that determine maleness, these then became the famous ‘lesbian worms’, chasing after other hermaphrodites.
Jorgensen calls hermaphrodites “females” because they reproduce independently.

I'm a bit confused how hermaphrodites can be lesbians, and why the fact that they "reproduce independently" is justification for labeling them females, but I still found this to be interesting.

Clitoraid... Adopt a Clitoris!

From the same folks that brought you Clonaid comes Clitoraid!

Remember Clonaid and the Raelians? Well if not, I'll give you a quick refresher course. Back in 2002, the "human cloning company" Clonaid claimed to have successfully cloned a human embryo, and further more, claimed the cloned human baby was born via c-section. While such claims were never verified, it turned out that the head of Clonaid is a bishop in the Raelian church. The Raelians are a UFO cult headed by some former French singer/auto-racing journalist who changed his name to Rael, and apparently Clonaid is closely associated with the Raelian movement as their tool to achieve immortality through cloning.

Ok... so... the Raelians don't believe in God, but they do believe in intelligent design... with the intelligent designers being extra-terrestrials, basically. And the Raelians believe cloning is the key to their immortality. But what's any of this have to do with sponsoring a clitoris?

Well first, let's clarify what's meant by sponsoring or adopting a clitoris. In many parts of Africa, it is customary to perform clitoral excision (a form of genital mutilation sometimes referred to as "female circumcision") on young girls. What this means is their clitoris is removed, which of course takes most of the pleasure out of the act of sex. Amongst the Raelians' beliefs, are beliefs in sexual freedom for men and women alike. So the Raelians are attempting to raise money for the surgical procedure required to RESTORE these women's clitorises, hence Clitoraid and the adopt a clitoris program.

Is it possible to restore a woman's clitoris once it's been removed? I have no clue... but sounds like a noble cause led by a bunch of nut jobs, to me. Seems to me I remember Oprah doing a show on female genital mutilation in Africa a couple of years back. You don't suppose Oprah's a Raelian, do ya?

For more information on the Raelians, you may wish to check out some of their many official websites.

Another Article on John Mark Karr

From The Washington Post, When Photos, Memories Are A Little Hazy:

"So you've maybe got a famous murderer in the family. Or you were married to one. He's extradited, he's very much in the news, and he's just as creepy as you remember him. You'd like to smack him upside the haid. You'd also like to prove to the world what a complete, dweeb-faced liar he is.

To do that, however, the world needs for you to please go into your spare closets and basements and look for old Christmas photos of him, specifically from Dec. 26, 1996, to prove he wasn't in Boulder, Colo., with the dying JonBenet Ramsey..."

The JonBenet Effect

From The JonBenet Effect - Yahoo! News, during a tongue-in-cheek comparison of JonBenet Ramsey and John Mark Karr to Chandra Levy and Gary Condit:

"What ever happened to Chandra and Gary? Who cares?! We've got their replacements in JonBenet Ramsey and John Mark Karr. They're younger, weirder and wear more make-up."
